September 21 marks the completion of our first public outreach project gathering firewood at Brown’s Gulch. All in all, we were able to raise $590 towards our cause, a far cry from the ~$15,000 we need for our project, but nothing to sneeze at either. Although this project was more oriented towards manual labor, the money from it will help us build up to more ambitious local outreach projects.
Chapter members met at the library parking lot before carpooling to Brown’s Gulch and meeting with Steve Sorensen, our contact for this project. On-site equipment was supplemented by students’ own mauls, gloves, and other supplies. After splitting several hundred pounds of wood students cataloged work and headed back to campus to recuperate and debrief.
