Hello everyone!
President Laurel Bitterman here with an Engineers Without Borders update. We had been starting to get very involved in our sanitation project and organizing fundraising efforts last Spring when the pandemic hit. Undoubtedly, this caused us to have to be flexible in our project plans and make some changes. Although travel is not allowed through December 2020, and likely into 2021 as well, the Montana Tech EWB chapter is hoping to keep a timely schedule on this project by using remote work. This remote work means we will work with the EWB-USA Nicaragua Country Office to do our site assessment. This assessment will include gathering data, through surveying community members and sampling, that will help us to come up with our latrine design solution. Our members have formed 5 committees to work on all areas of this project. We have a committee for fundraising, communication, construction planning, engineering design, and travel logistics. Our goal is to have a remote assessment plan submitted to EWB-USA headquarters by the end of the semester, November 24th! Stay tuned for more updates and always feel free to contact me at lbitterman@mtech.edu!
